A college student from Portland, Oregon, age 19 was killed
After a brick column fell, two more people were hurt
On the first day of a new fall semester the incident happened
Lewis & Clark College, a private liberal arts institution with around 2,000 students, received a visit from fire firefighters
Police were informed by witnesses that one person had major injuries
No one was pinned beneath the column, according to the first responders
Found that one male, age 19, had passed away at the spot
According to Portland Fire & Rescue, two women, both age 18, were also injured
One of them had an arm injury, while the other had an abdomen injury
Both were taken to a hospital, but the agency did not disclose their current health statuses
